STD Signs and Symptoms: Odor in Vaginal Discharge
An abnormally strong or offensive odor in vaginal discharge can indication an infection in a woman's body. Many different STDs - including chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and gonorrhea - can cause odor in vaginal discharge.
What to do When Experiencing Odor in Vaginal Discharge
When a strong, fishy odor in vaginal discharge occurs, the STD trichomoniasis, or "trich," can be the cause. Chlamydia and gonorrhea can also cause unusual smelling or colored vaginal discharge. Since STD symptoms are often similar, only STD testing can determine the cause.
Confidential STD Testing
If experiencing a strange odor in vaginal discharge and may have been exposed to an STD, private STD testing at a local lab or at home STD kits can diagnose the problem. If you test positive, our on-staff physician can also prescribe medication to cure these infections.
