Signs and Symptoms of STDs: Vaginal Spotting
Vaginal spotting in women can be a result of STDs gonorrhea or chlamydia. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are two of the most common STDs in the United States affecting millions of people each year. Symptoms of chlamydia and gonorrhea are similar and may include vaginal spotting, lower abdominal pain, discomfort while urinating, or pain during intercourse.
If gonorrhea or chlamydia are left untreated, the infections can spread throughout the reproductive system causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) which can cause vaginal spotting. PID can have devastating repercussions such as infertility or ectopic pregnancies. STD testing should be administered when experiencing cervix pain or other symptoms.
